Is it still taboo to wear white shoes after Labor Day?

I’m not sure. I’m not a white shoes kind of guy and I’m certainly not up on fashion or social convention.

In fact, the only white shoes I ever owned were high-top Converse canvas tennis shoes. I’m not sure that even applied to the rule.

That’s one of those unwritten rules that we used to live by back in the days before the internet and rules were written down.

Another such rule that we lived by back in the day was the one that prohibited us from eating oysters in a month that did not have an R in them.

I don’t care what color shoes you were wearing, back then nobody ate oysters in between May and August. To do so was to risk almost certain death or, at the least, scorn from our neighbors.
